Pastoral News…

… On Monday 25 March Anne A (Aniema) had a traumatic fall on stairs and sustained a complex fracture to her right shoulder.  She had surgery on April 1st and reports that it went well. She is at home but in a lot of pain. She says she is fine and gives thanks to God.

Congregational News…

… From David and Eden: We’ve moved from our 2 bedroom maisonette in Victoria Park and the landlords are looking for new tenants from now. The house is run by Mission Housing and has cheaper rent because they want to house people working or attached to a local church. The landlords are very lovely!

… Jo Frew is turning 40 this year and is planning a party to mark this milestone. You are warmly invited to this party on Saturday 6th April at Tottenham’s Cafe Connect (map) from 5pm – 12am. It’s a lovely place with an indoor and outdoor space and kids are welcome. There will be plenty food but please bring a bottle or two (and absolutely no presents!), and if you would like to help out with cooking or anything else do get in touch (07736320920). Hope to see you there for some fun, food and dancing!

… Othona planning: Time is moving on and we need to get planning for this year’s Church Away. If you’ve been, or would like to be, a part of the planning group please let Anne S know so that a meeting can be planned soon to get our creative juices flowing.

… Worship leading: There are some gaps in the worship plan in April and May – can you help? We need leaders for the following services:

April 14th – Palm Sunday All Age service

April 28th – Discussion service on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-49)

… If anyone would like to be trained to so that they can be authorised to preside at communion speak to Anne S – it’s a short session (1 evening, a Sunday afternoon or a Saturday morning) and those who do it really appreciate it. It would be good to have 1 or 2 people who can preside at communion.

… CPURC Elders: The following people are the serving CPURC elders: Abi Kingston, Anne Aaron, Lesley Trenkel (church secretary), Mercy Mashem and Stuart Harwood-Hope. The elders meeting, chaired by the minister, is the trustee body for the weekday and Sunday life of the church. Please feel free to talk to one of the elders or the minister about any aspect of the life of the church.

Beyond our congregation…

… The Council of Christians and Jews (North London Branch) is putting on a Seder demonstration from 7-9pm on Wednesday 10th April at the Clapton Salvation Army, 122 Lower Clapton Road. On April 19th and 20th Jewish families and friends around the world will gather to celebrate the Passover with the Seder meal. On the evening of the 10th Rabbi Larry Becker who is the rabbi of Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue in Wanstead will take those in attendance through the Seder ceremony as it will take place for Jewish families later in the month. If you know you will be attending, it would be helpful to let them know for the purpose of catering by emailing ivor@ivormill.plus.com, but you are welcome to attend even if you have not RSVP’d.

… The latest issue of the URC News Update can be read here. It includes suggestions of ways to support the victims of Cyclone Idai, an update on Yorkshire Synod which is the most recent synod to decide to divest from fossil fuels and much more!
